Between PS9G&T and crappy private (CGPS or Calhoun), I'd go with PS9. CGPS and Calhoun have dumb (CGPS) and problem (Calhoun) DCs [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Do you have personal experience with children at each of these schools? B/c the MAJOR difference you're missing is the type of education offered by CPGS or Calhoun vs 9. If you want your child taught in a traditional, do workbook pages for homework, teach to the test environment, pick 9 all the way. If progressive education is of interest to you, look harder at these so called "crappy" schools. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know anything about CPGS but all the dc's who i know at Calhoun do have behavioral and learning problems. Not trying to be mean but they do seem to lack a "standard" other than $$$$ [ Reply | More ]

pub school teacher here. I PROMISE you: pleny of dumb kids at PS9 gen ed, and plenty behaviorals too. No, you will not find the creme de la creme at Calhoun or CGPS. But they actually do reject people. PS 9 is a public school and it must take everyone in its zone. and it does. [ Reply | More ]

ITA, but crappy poster is comparing PS9G&T, which selects on the basis of OLSAT/Bracken scores (but not on behavioral issues). [ Reply | More ]

I've been impressed with the graduates of Columbia Grammar & Prep School I have met. I have also been impressed with their college educations (including MIT). [ Reply | More ]

ITA. We have 2 dc's at CGPS, both 90s ERBs, and (other than writing the checks) we couldn't be happier. Fabulous school. [ Reply | More ]

This is interesting. I work with several people whose kids went to CGPS and Ivy college from there. Can't be that bad. And the kids that went there from our preschool were quite bright too, with very good ERBs. [ Reply | More ]

But PS9 G&T curriculum is NOT accelerated and private curriculum IS. Privates have more extras and many teachers per class who can work one on one with very smart kids. You sound like a horrible person. [ Reply | More ]
