Why do parents bring children to wine bars? When dh and I want a night out without our kids, we always end up near someone else's. We thought by going to a "wine" "bar," we could avoid the dcs that frequent even the nicest restaurants. It drives me crazy. Btw, we are talking about 7pm...shouldn't those little darlings be getting ready for bed? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

because they are on vacation and your "little darling" comment shows that you are not asking you are just venting. [ Reply | More ]

what do you mean by on vacation? I don't think they are tourists. And I am venting. It's getting so the only way we can have drinks without some kid chirping in our ears is in our living room. We don't get out much as it is...where can we go that is child-free? [ Reply | More ]

perhaps if you found your dh more interesting, you wouldn't be fixated on the people around you.... [ Reply | More ]

that may be true, but I'm trying...and perhaps if you found your dcs more interesting, they wouldn't feel like they have to entertain you and everyone else who is trying to enjoy a quiet night out. [ Reply | More ]

^^^oops, wasn't done. This is NYC and I think regular rules just don't apply. When we go out to eat with DD we try to find family-friendly -- but sometimes we want better food/atmosphere and if we don't have a sitter... we'll you know the rest. See you at the Wine Bar! [ Reply | More ]

I guess you don't mind exposing your children to a bunch of drunks. And I guess you don't mind sitting near someone else's screaming mimis when you're on a romantic date. [ Reply | More ]

Interesting, other people's dc don't bother me, only my own! Seriously, I barely even notice them unless the behavior is really out of bounds. It's dragging my own to a place like that that I would never do. How can you possibly enjoy yourself at a wine bar if you've got to take care of small dc? [ Reply | More ]

Because it is so hard to turn a profit as a wine bar (or any bar) that many are actively presenting themselves as "family-friendly" to build their customer base. [ Reply | More ]
