Rec's needed. I have a chronic back condition and need rec's for either a sling or carrier. I'm having my baby in the fall and need to drop off my other dc to school and will be taking the nb. I tried the Bjorn with my other dc but that hurt like hell..too much pressure on my spine. Any rec is greatly appreciated [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I think if you have a chronic back problem you shouldn't use a sling or carrier. [ Reply | More ]

op: yes I shouldn't but I have to bring 2 other dc to school on the bus with a newborn..so this will be the easiest way. I can't afford to take a taxi every day 4 times a day (one in preschool half day and the other in elem.) [ Reply | More ]

double stroller with baby and kid 1 in it. kid 2 holds your hand and walks to the bus. stinks but keeps you vertical! Imagine doing any of it if you're stuck in bed after really injuring your back [ Reply | More ]

that won't work. The middle dc is way too big for a stroller and carrying a nb, stroller folded and 2 kids on the bus in Manhattan at 7:45 is not the way to go. I hear what you are saying but I've tried it this way when I had #2..too much of a PITA..so I need to not to bring a stroller (even a single one)...with the baby's weight and the weight of a folded stroller, that will be too much for me. Thanks anyway. It's a pita but I've gotta find something. [ Reply | More ]

I don't understand why they can't walk, but try the Ergo if you must. You do realize that it's really counterproductive to deliberately not take care of yourself, right? [ Reply | More ]

op: we can't walk because the schools are a mile + away from our apt. In the nice weather we do occasionally walk but at times I'm in too much pain to do so. In the cold weather there's no way I would make them walk. I've been living with this disability for 18 yrs now. I know my limitation and what I can do. When you find yourself in a pickle and don't have any other choice, you have to make the best decision you can. Thx anyway [ Reply | More ]

Did you try the bjorn with the lumbar support? I really liked that one. Otherwise, ergo is good, but I've heard they aren't the best for newborns. Also look into the moby wrap. I found it to be a pita but a lot of people like them, and you could wrap it on a way so weight was off your back. [ Reply | More ]

op: yes I did for #2 and it really was uncomfortable for me. My dc wasn't a big baby either but the constant weight down on my spine was too much. Thanks for the recs. I will look into the others [ Reply | More ]

My cousin has this thing that works like a structured fanny pack that you can sit the baby on. It says to use after 6 months but my cousin used it before then. It may be better for your back because the weight would be on your hips not your back. http://www.strawberry-tiger.co.uk/acatalog/info-hippychick-hipseat-black.html [ Reply | More ]
