I left numerous messages on the phone numbers indicated in DOE letter, e-mailed all the G&T department e-mails i could find on internet, nobody came back to me yet.Someone here mentioned that even you show up there security will not let you in. What should i do? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

What do you mean "shut out?" Do you mean you didn't rank all options and did not get a spot? [ Reply | More ]

you are SOL. You should have ranked all your options. [ Reply | More ]

That was your mistake. In order to be guaranteed a spot you had to rank ALL of your choices. There are no more spots left. Its over for you and you need to find a nice general ed. [ Reply | More ]

i don't think we need gen ed K. my ds is a fluent reader (and writer) and his math is on the 2nd grade level. It might be better for us just to stay home for another year. [ Reply | More ]

You are SOL then. They were clear that you had to list all the options to be guaranteed a spot. I don't mean to be snarky, but why didn't you follow the instructions? [ Reply | More ]

Try the Office of Student Enrollment (212-374-4948) or Office of Gifted and Talented Programs (212-374-5972). Those were listed as numbers for any questions on my acceptance. Good luck! [ Reply | More ]

You could also try emailing giftedandtalented@schools.nyc.gov with all the info on the form (child's name, OSIS, etc.) and state the school you'd like to accept into that's listed on your letter as an option for placement. [ Reply | More ]

You had 7 schools to rank and if you would have done that your kid would have gotten a spot. Why didn't you do that especially now that you are willing to accept a school you didn't rank in the first place. Be glad that the DOE is willing to work with you on this. Just wait a couple of weeks and then follow up with the G&T folks. [ Reply | More ]

in D2 the only schools with open spots are the ones in chinatown. What is your gen ed school? unless it's 198, I would send your child to gen ed for next year for the socialization aspect and apply to G&T again. [ Reply | More ]

The goddess of NYC schools. OP, just wait for the dust to settle and then call the G&T office (phone numbers are on the web site). Don't panic. You have all summer long to work with the DOE on this. [ Reply | More ]

My guess is that they have not called you back (and this is being generous) yet because they do not know what they have to offer you. It appears from the post on this board alone that many people only ranked some of the schools that they were offered and thus, there might be many people who are also in your shoes -- willing to accept an offer in a school that had not considered before. I would persist in attempting to reach them...and would most likely email and send a letter. [ Reply | More ]

DOE may very well be trying to fill programs that were not highly popular with parents and ought to be happy to hear from you. If you can't get through to Tweed, ask your electeds for help -- City Council Member and Borough President. They can intercede with DOE or with the district superintendent. DOE has screwed up every admissions process they have touched (pre-k, G&T, middle schools) so don't feel bad about what you did or did not do right. The policy says your kid gets a seat.
