No idea where ds's SS card is. Will they still let me register him for school? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I had no idea I would need it until I spoke with the admissions guy at NEST. Just thought I'd need con ed bill and birth certificate. [ Reply | More ]

I registered at Nest today. Couldn't find the social security card, but I brought the number and the other documentation. It was fine. [ Reply | More ]

ps 116 also requests ss card, but ps 11 does not and wonders why other schools need that. [ Reply | More ]

Apply for a replacement card and get documentation that you are doing this. Social Security has lots of local sites around the city. [ Reply | More ]

thanks. That's what I plan to do. I have the number, just not the card. I'm sure it's buried in a box someplace... [ Reply | More ]

Not all kids have this. DOE requires birth certificate or passport according to their website. [ Reply | More ]

The registration form I filled out said SSN was optional. [ Reply | More ]

You do not need a SS card to register a child for school. It's nowhere on the list of required documents. Just proof of age (birth certificate), proof of immunization, proof of address (con ed bill). I already registered DD--twice, once at zoned school then at lottery school. I have no clue where her SS card is and didn't need it. [ Reply | More ]

Every school has its own process. NEST seems to require the SS card. [ Reply | More ]

When I talked to NEST today I questioned him on the SS card and he said it was optional. [ Reply | More ]

also, did they let you look around at all? I missed the tour and was hoping to sneak a peek at registration. [ Reply | More ]

eh, I hope they are not just let you roam around for a sneak peek, School is in session and I don't think it is appropriate for you to poke your nose into class rooms. [ Reply | More ]
