There are several 166 99 3rd choice moms, but it is "disappointed mom" you need to find. I think the rest are all just fine with it now. (they know that their kids are just as smart as the Anderson ones but just drew lower lottery numbers.--It had nothing to do with deeming other kids "smarter" or "better [ Reply | More ]

i went through this process a number of years ago - do you think it is worse to go to a round 2 and have dc rejected or worse to just know you pulled a bad #? [ Reply | More ]

I think it is much worse to go to round 2 and get rejected. I have had both experiences (e.g., Hunter and Anderson) [ Reply | More ]

not sure i agree - only experienced a round 2 rejection and least you feel like there may be some logic to why dc was not selected [ Reply | More ]

But I resent the school that "rejected" my child not the one that didn't pull her lottery number [ Reply | More ]

DD went Round 2 for Hunter and didn't make it and then we also got our 3rd choice =lower lottery draw...UGH! [ Reply | More ]

No I'm not disappointed mom and I think getting the 3rd choice felt worse. I HATE the fact that the DOE changed the rules in the middle of the game with this random lottery. I know with my DD's very high 99 and fall birthday that if the DOE used the raw scores, we would have gotten our 1st or 2nd choice. Plus, at least w/ Hunter we knew the process going in, it didn't constantly change midstream. [ Reply | More ]

how did it change - were they originally going just my score to rank within a %ile? [ Reply | More ]

OSEPO office stated to the press priority in placement would be based on scores and preferences. Last year the DOE gave raw scores and placed kids with the highest score first. After scores went out this year, this board was buzzing about high, mid, and low 99's. Then a week later or so later the DOE decided it would be a random lottery by % and never publicly announced it. This year the kids with the highest scores became just another 99 in a luck of the draw pool. [ Reply | More ]

Right, but last year the citywides had onsites so that neutralized the score effect for them. In fact I think Anderson saw scores ranging from 97-99 and selected from all of them. It has never been straight top scores for citywide (district was different) [ Reply | More ]

Then if district was different we would have gotten our 2nd choice. [ Reply | More ]

It sounds like you 2nd was district not Nest. Was your 2nd that much better than your 3rd? [ Reply | More ]

very high 99 here: we lucked out, but had been down a long road with privates and hunter before that. feel it does work out sometimes. perhaps later for you. maybe you should re apply for anderson next year if that's what you want [ Reply | More ]

Yes, I know. We will apply for Anderson next year too. DD is 4 1/2 and reads grade 3 level books on her own. We will try for Anderson again. [ Reply | More ]

If you are still on 3rd choice mom, reading is one area where schools can most easily differentiate instruction--kids break out into different reading levels and go at their own pace. Much easier to differentiate than other areas. [ Reply | More ]

It is hard because really when you count Hunter, a lot of us 99 3rd choice moms are really 99 4th choice moms...But I think by this time next year most of us will be thinking "why the heck did I ever want anything but the school I am in?" (at least that is my hope) [ Reply | More ]
