Pediatric Dermotologist just called with results of a biopsy he did on my 7mo DS. He said the lumpy growth on his ankle was made up of calcium and bone and that it could be caused by a rare metabolic disorder or a trauma (although that would be a strange reaction to a trauma). DS has had this since he was about 4mo. DOes anyone know what metabolic disorders he could be referring to and if they are serious? He was pretty vague and said that we just need to run some blood tests. I am trying not to freak out but I now wish I had asked for more info and it is too late to call him back. TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

no idea... but my wish for you - although I don't know you - is to stay very calm and not to freak yourself out. [ Reply | More ]

ita. having met with countless doctors regarding my dd i've come to realize that doctors really don't want to say much until they run blood tests. they won't speculate. if you're anxious they pick up on it, so will certainly hold back. [ Reply | More ]

My ds has a lump near his ankle that his orthopedist has told me is an extra bone. He even showed me an xray of a boy who had his removed the day before. But don't worry, he also said that most kids don't need any intervention, sometimes it becomes an issue with sports or if your dc has a leg brace it may become calloused. He related it as very ordinary, of course that doesn't mean your dc has the same, but it sounded very familiar! [ Reply | More ]
