If your child is at a G&T school - where do you say they go to school when people ask? Do you say "166" or 166 G&T? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

YOU SAY 166! Never, ever say "G&T". This is why: People might not know what it is and if they say "what is G&T" and you say "Gifted and talented" you sound like an a hole who has to brag about her kid. If they DO know what it is they will be totally turned off, and they would have asked 'Which program" anyway had you kept your braggy mouth shut. [ Reply | More ]

Okay, so what if you ask someone what school their kid goes to and they say, PS 334. Do you think they are assholes? I had that happen to me and it annoyed me. Why not just say Anderson for gods sake? It's like saying I go to school in Boston, when what you really mean is Harvard. Signed Harvard grad with kid at A [ Reply | More ]

ITA - I once dated a guy who went to Princeton, and he always told people that he went to a small school in NJ. I thought this was ridiculous. Why not just say "Princeton"? It just seems arrogant. [ Reply | More ]

My kids go to Anderson, and I say Anderson if I think the person knows what it is, and P.S. 334 if I think they don't, like some guy at work who lives in the suburbs or something. Back when it was part of P.S.9 I just said P.S.9. [ Reply | More ]

Great question - started to wonder the same myself. I got eyes rolled at me recently when someone asked me what school my dd was going to and I said I was still waiting for the G&T placement letter. I like the advice of the person above who says just say the school. [ Reply | More ]

We have always said that our dcs go to ps9 and never talk about G&T with our dcs. I always hate when someone asks my dcs which program they are in. the funny thing, is that they don't know about programs. eventually they figure it out but even once they do, I am not sure they actually know what it means. ditto. just say ps9. people don't usually ask which program, but for some reason they assume it is G&T. they always say "oh, how do you like it? Hear its tough to get into." or some such thing. [ Reply | More ]

You can say Anderson or Hunter because that is the name of the schools, but saying G&T for a number school does sound like you are bragging. [ Reply | More ]

Agree with you. Why would you say PS 334 if it is usually known by it's name: "Anderson" [ Reply | More ]

actually the kids do, they were taught that and if my dc says ps9 and people ask what school is this (mostly because they expected to hear some private school name) dc says Sarah Anderson school. They do talk about it at school. Otherwise, the name is only useful to distinguish from other PS9s (there is one in each borough) when looking up school stats etc. [ Reply | More ]

Glad you asked this, as I'm gong to feel like kind of a jerk when I say NEST. DS has friends that I think are smarter than he is that didn't score well, and I feel weird aboout the whole thing. [ Reply | More ]
