We have to leave our children with a babysitter that we've never met to attend my brother's wedding. The sitter was chosen by his mother in law to be. The kids can either stay at the hotel with the sitter, which about 8 miles away from the church and reception, or come to the reception and wait in a house nearby, so we can check on them, but they'd have to ride to and from the reception in a van and not in their carseats. why can't you bring the carseats along? [ Reply | More ]

because it will be too much to get two carseats into one of those wedding shuttle vans at the end of the night. My parents are like, you realize that there weren't carseats when you were a kid, they'll be fine! [ Reply | More ]

Is the van going to be the same one to/from the reception? Why can't you just leave the car seats in the van? [ Reply | More ]

Neither of these sound like the right answer to me. First of all, can you meet the sitter before the wedding day? I take it there has been some security screening or something, otherwise, no f-ing way at all I'd leave the kids w. this person. Could the kids and sitter come to the reception, and then kids go up to bridal suite w. sitter when they're tired? Or if you leave them at the hotel, dh should drive back (8mi not so far) and check on them. No riding in a van w.o carseats, tho, sorry. Can you rent carseats at the location and go to the place where the van is coming from and install them before the wedding? Also, not so hard installing them at the end of the night. [ Reply | More ]

np: Bridal suite is for the bride. There has to be an answer for OP, but it should not include assuming her kids are the most important thing for the bride. [ Reply | More ]

I may take the unpopular position here - but I think that its not such a big deal to drive in a van without a car seat under these circumstances. I would go with that option. [ Reply | More ]

if the carseat is such a big deal, can you get special dispensation to drive your car to the reception? Then just do the leave them with the babysitter at the house option. Oh - and if you aren't comfortable with leaving them with a sitter you/they've never met, arrange to meet her before the wedding. [ Reply | More ]

how does mother in law to be know the babysitter. Has she used her? I don't trust anyone unless i do some sort of background check. I know you are trying to go with the flow but these are your kids [ Reply | More ]
