I wasn't nuts until I started in on the NYC school system, I promise you that. I'd give anything to have a simple, decent zoned school that everyone went to automatically, like you probably did in SC. Everything except having to move to SC. [ Reply | More ]

NP: Then why didn't you move to a zone with a decent school? They do exist and they're not all crazily expensive. [ Reply | More ]

Just saying, SC is known for its crappy schools. And yet many in my graduating class went to great colleges and went on to be very accomplished people. Some perspective, people. And you have clearly never been to Charleston, SC. [ Reply | More ]

I have, actually. LIfelong NYer and prefer to stay here with friends and family. The public schools in my zone are "decent" but not great or even good, like many in district 2. There are definitely a limited number of those and not all of us can afford to live there. Of course people can come from "crappy" schools and do terrifically. But many more people who go to crappy schools don't. In any event, you make choices: an apartment with a separate bedroom for your children with a decent school nearby, or a studio in a great school district. I chose the former. [ Reply | More ]
