There are 3 real/honest reasons why a DC will go to zoned public 1) DC has behavioral issues, 2) DC is not-so-smart, 3) parents can't afford private [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

That is bs and you know it. Many parents chose a zoned school for their dc. Why do you have to try to make yourself feel better by denigrating others and their choices? [ Reply | More ]

No-one will choose PS199 over Trinity, or PS6 over Chapin. No-one who can afford it and her DC is smart/social enough to get in [ Reply | More ]

They might not apply to private at all and thus they have chosen 199 or 6. My dc is going to private and I would not presume that people who made different choices than I have a child who cannot get in. You are trying to stir things up. It is a ridiculous thing to say that people who choose a zoned public do so because they have no choice. [ Reply | More ]

Lets see, neither my dh or I have to work another day (no one knows this, we live a very modest life), we chose a great general ed school for our dc (who tests pretty high and is a delight). Now, I realize we are an exception - but we are an exception to your idiotic assesment of public school parents and children in nyc. [ Reply | More ]

One reason people go to zoned public schools is that they don't do the research on how NYC public schools really are. The dumbed-down curriuculum taught at PS 199 and Ps 6 is the same as that taught to the worst preforming schools in the ghettoes. NYC public schools have done a miserable job at educating for the past 40 years, and 6 years of mayoral control has not measurably improved things. Catholic schools do 100 times better at a small fraction of the cost. [ Reply | More ]

You disgust me, and everyone should recoil at this statement. All those people in West, NJ, LI, Ct who happily send their kids to good public schools are no different that people in NYC who choose to do so. With this narcissistic, self-important and denigrating attitude you better hope your children learn their morals from their school or peers and not from you. [ Reply | More ]

Oh, THANK YOU for your wisdom. I'm running now to tell the families at our selective public school who are wealthy enough to afford private, to pull their children out IMMEDIATELY. They shouldn't be sending their kids to our school. I'm certain they didn't realize the error of their ways!!!!! [ Reply | More ]

I disagree with item 2. There are plenty of smart kids who enroll in kindergarten at their zoned school. It's just that after a few years in NYC public schools, they become not so smart. The reason you leave out is that many parents who drink the PS199 or PS6 kool aid don't stop to examine how dreadful their schools really are. [ Reply | More ]

I think too many people who CAN'T afford private are sending their kids there and overreaching to spend 70,000 for two dcs per year in school...they could, instead, send their children to public and spend half as much on extra curricular activities and financial security to benefit their dcs in the long run [ Reply | More ]
