116 won't let anyone do tours anymore. I have never seen the school. How can i send my kid there without visiting at least once? can any parents get me inside? [ Reply | More ]

why didn't you tour when they were giving them? And no, parents can not let you in the school to roam the halls and walk in an out of classes on your own. [ Reply | More ]

I don't understand. If you never considered it, how did it get put down as one of your choices? [ Reply | More ]

because she hoped for A or N. And op has a legitimate concern if she has to commute to get to 116. and you have to rank everything to be guaranteed a spot. [ Reply | More ]

she's zoned for 40. Commute isn't a problem [ Reply | More ]

of course, it's still a commute. 2 cab rides a day (unless you want to rely on a bus and be late) [ Reply | More ]

OK, go to a local playground and ask moms about 116. You have this week and next before school is out. If I were chosing, I would chose 40. 116 is a drop em in the yard kind of school and 40 is more nurturing. [ Reply | More ]

thank you. I appreciate this advice. what do you mean by drop them in yard? you can't go up to the classroom at drop off? [ Reply | More ]

nope. its a rules school, and you drop em in the yard in K [ Reply | More ]

oops, hit return by accident... DOE said you had to rank every school in the district to be guaranteed a spot someplace. The director at our nursery school along with everyone I spoke to at DOE said rank them all, whether you want them or not!! I was hoping to rank all but still get first choice or on a wait list for it. [ Reply | More ]

You're welcome! This is my first time on these boards and I was hoping to find some insight on my 2 choices for DS (ps 11 or ps 290). I'm sure I'll get the same crap about why I don't know anything about 11 and why didn't I tour it, blah, blah... Honestly, I live on UES and only thought I'd accept LL (DS scored 93) due to logistics and the fact that we're zoned for 290 which I've heard wonderful things about (and liked the tour). But now that we have the offer to 11 I feel I must research it as best I can before making a decision. It's too bad you get more criticism on these boards than actual advice. [ Reply | More ]

Hi, we got in with a 99, 3rd choice. Nest and Anderson were our top picks. I also haven't seen the school and am disturbed with the fact that it's a drop in yard school. Any other negatives? [ Reply | More ]

You do drop in the yard for K, but it really is not a big deal. My dd was in K this year and the teacher was very nurturing. She had a great year. [ Reply | More ]

There's only one class per grade at PS 116 G&T, which can be limiting. Class size may be large. Do you have other children? It may be harder for a sibling to follow into 116 than 40 (assuming 40 is your zoned school). [ Reply | More ]

class size is very large at g&T at 116, even bigger class than gen ed, which is around 28. aslo people say there is not much of a difference between gen ed and g&t program at 116, that is why it is a great overall school, but for g&t it's just ok. [ Reply | More ]
