How long did it take for pain to go away with nursing your first? (I've seen two lactation consultants who told me latch was perfect btw.) [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Once the cracks were healed it was fine. Have you checked for thrush? [ Reply | More ]

It does take a while to settle into it and I had a friend who never found it comfortable and gave up. If you are also pumping check that the pump isn't making you sore. [ Reply | More ]

np: I had thrush and a staph infection at the same time. The staph infection wasn't diagnosed for a while (because it was assumed I only had thrush). Are you in the NYC area? [ Reply | More ]

GL. (I asked about NYC because if you were near here, I'd give you someone to call). If it doesn't get better soon, ask your OB about possible other problems (such as staph). [ Reply | More ]

even when you're doing everything properly and there is no thrush, it's toe-curling pain while the nipples toughen. Don't worry, but grit your teeth until it passes... [ Reply | More ]

If you do it correctly, your nipples don't have to be "toghen". [ Reply | More ]

both my nipples got infected @ 4 days , got an antibiotic to clear it up and it took @ 2 weeks for pain to go away. I can honestly tell you I got to a place where he could suck forever and it didn't bother me at all. [ Reply | More ]

I would use a wet washcloth every time before I would nurse. It would clear away the cracks and then it was an easier transition to nurse. Hang in there it does clear up [ Reply | More ]

Try soaking your nipples in some salt water after nursing for a minute or two. I had the worst scabs for two weeks and the soaks healed everything up in about 2 days. [ Reply | More ]

Warm wash cloth before, put cream on after and stuff a green cabbage leave into your bra. It sounds insane but it helps, keep the cabbage in the fridge so it is cool. I also used the hair dryer sometimes after to dry them. I used to dip the nipples in salt water or use olive oil or the nursing cream and let them also air dry... I felt like a complete moron ... Try and avoid the pump, keep the baby on the breast as much as possible. Get a good chair, sit straight, get a boppy, don't move the breast to baby other way around etc. GL ! [ Reply | More ]
