I found an aprox. 3 carat diamond stud earring at the beach on Sat. I left my name and number at the lost & found. How long would you wait to hear before doing something with it (e.g. selling it)? I would think a diamond this big would be insured. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

You should be very careful, the person may have reported this earring stolen which could land you in bucket of trouble if you were to try and sell it. If you really want to sell it you should contact your local police dept and ask them what the appropriate procedure is [ Reply | More ]

Thank you. I'll try to find out more. My dh is going to take it to the diamond seller where he bought my earrings and find out if it is indeed the real thing. I believe it is. [ Reply | More ]

Legally, you are required to report lost property that you find to the police dept, unless it is worth less than $20. [ Reply | More ]

Yep - give it to the police, send it registered mail, stay out of it. [ Reply | More ]

OP here: I haven't posted here in forever, and I'm having a hard time with how this works. Anyway, I didn't know I had to report it to the police. I am trying to do the right thing. I looked at it under a loup and compared it to my own diamond earrings (that are not nearly as big). [ Reply | More ]
