Is it correct that NEST raised $115k last year? Is that for the whole school? Maybe A's numbers are throwing me off, but that doesn't seem like very much, esp. for a k-12 [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

That sounds really low. [ Reply | More ]

I could be wrong, but that's the amount they raised at Spring Auction alone. [ Reply | More ]

that still seems low for a k-12 school. I think A raised twice that much at its auction. [ Reply | More ]

OP, and I might be wrong. I'm trying to get the info from their website, but perhaps their biggest fundraising push happens at the very end of the year (auction, fair, etc.) and hasn't been calculated in yet. We plan to donate a good amount next year, FWIW [ Reply | More ]

this year's auction was just a few weeks ago. [ Reply | More ]

It is correct, just for the auction. Keep in mind that NEST+m is still relatively a new school. [ Reply | More ]

I don't remember what number they said at PTA but that is not right. It was more than that. As is said above, the auction alone raised more than that. I do know that the vast majority of PTA money (not including the actuion) came from the lowest grade level(s). The upper school families are not active donors. [ Reply | More ]

funny. everybody is still fresh and into the whole thing in the lower levels. By the time the kids kit HS the parents are burnt out. [ Reply | More ]

What kills me is the parents of the upper school kids there obviously didn't support NEST at K or 1st grade level either ('cause it wasn't NEST.) And it seems like big % of the PTA spending is for the upper school kids. [ Reply | More ]

I assume that parents can't raise funds for targeted purposes, like an asst teacher in the younger classes? [ Reply | More ]

they could but the first year is kind of overwhelming (at least for me it was.) Next year I plan to speak up about the inequities. I don't think it should be quid pro quo but... [ Reply | More ]

Is it a philosophical or funding-reality decision not to have 2nd teachers in the classroom? [ Reply | More ]

I don't know. I've been there for "parents as reading partners" and it never seemed like a big deal that there is only one teacher. [ Reply | More ]

Nest Parent here: The gala brought in more than that so that number is off. Next year aside from something like the gala, the funds each school brings in will solely be used for that particular school (lower school donations are used for lower school). [ Reply | More ]

Really? Interesting. Every interesting. Was this a big push by the lower school folks? Will there be one big bucket for the PTA from events and stuff and then the family gifts will be portioned out? How will this be done? [ Reply | More ]

That is GREAT to hear - thank you! Any idea what donations range from? [ Reply | More ]

np: It is a pretty big range. Zero at one end (it is a public school and not everyone has the means) to a lot more than that on the other range. I would bet the median is about $750 for those who give. (There were some big ticket items at the gala so there are some real outliers on the high side.) In truth though, I am pulling the numbers out of my ass so take this whole post with a grain of salt. [ Reply | More ]
