I don't want to sound like Carrie Nation here, but I do think that booze is a really really dangerous substance. In the last six months, I have seen middle-aged men so drunk that they have gotten into vicious fist fights, teenagers who are so sick they have to be hospitalized, as well as an accident where a really drunk Dad fell down a flight of stairs and almost broke his neck. I don't think the media really pays attention to this serious problem. Any thoughts? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

i totally agree with you. but i think it's even worse. we are a nation of addicts and co-dependents. we are addicted to everything...not just alcohol. we are addicted to not being in touch with reality. just look at how many moms say they cannot go through labor with meds. it's really awful and very difficult to find people who are not addicted to something [ Reply | More

If we aren't happy - even for a good reason like death of a family member or illness etc - we think we need a pill or a drink or something to make the pain go away. Pain is part of life. well any HS Health Ed teacher will tell you it's the most abused drug in the world. Although, unlike many other drugs, many people can enjoy alcohol w/o ill effects. Short of prohibition, there's not much we can do about it. [ Reply | More
