SIL never returns calls, rsvps to invitations, etc. she has 4 kids and my dd (3yo) misses them so much. this weekend she said, "where my cousins went?" as if they have left the country! i am so sad for her but we are at a loss as to how to get the kids together without SIL's cooperation. so sad. That's hard on you. Is there somebody in the family whom she listens to, who could intervene? Your dh (presumably her brother) or your MIL? [ Reply | More

she doesn't return dh's calls (yes, he is her brother) altho they have not had an argument or anything. she has a lot going on in her own life (recent divorce). MIL has tried a bit to intervene but we're also trying not to let her realize the extent of what's going on - she is already worried about SIL's mental and fiscal health. [ Reply | More

OR here. If your SIL is going through a divorce, I can see why she isn't being the best Aunt. SHe is going through a lot. Her kids probably miss your dd as well. Why not offer to take the kids for a day? THat might help her. And if she's a mensch, when things get better she'll remember. [ Reply | More

op: we have tried but the problem is she literally just doesn't respond. we're really at a loss. two of her kids are old enough (15 and 13) that we are trying to email and call them and make plans with them directly, but they still need someone to get them places. [ Reply | More

do you both have kids? do they like each other? i don't care how SIL feels about me (altho she has always been perfectly pleasant when we do get together) as long as the cousins, who all seem to get along great, saw each other. (also, its just rude not to return calls or rsvp to invitations.) [ Reply | More
