I am so pissed- I am in District 22 an was not given my 1st choice of district schools even though my dd scored a 98. It happens to be my zoned school as well. I called the school to see if they could do anyhting and the preincipal told me they were notified Friday afternoon that they would not have the program next year as well as another school that was listed lost the program. They said they did not have enough children and they city pulled the program. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

yes 222 and 277 were on the list included on the application that we had to rank. I put 277 as 1st choice and 222 as my 2nd choice [ Reply | More

well, those two schools did not get enough kids so they had to shutdown the programs there. Just because you ranked them 1st and 2nd doesn't mean anything. [ Reply | More

I would be disappointed, but things happen. They closed the programs for whatever reason. They did not guarantee the programs. You just breathe and move on. [ Reply | More

isn't that the district where there used to be one G&T (EAGLE) class in each and every school? If so, you must realize that was very odd -- no other district does that. In most districts, the G&T programs are only in the underused and generally not very good schools. You guys had an exceptionally wide G&T program in the past, something no other area of the city had, and, according to the DOE, b/c there were so many G&T classes, they had to take kids that wouldn't have made it into G&T classes anywhere else. yes we used to have one Eagle but they narrowed it down to 10 schools for the 180 that made it, they were on our acceptance letter, we had to rank them, the schools were just notifed Friday [ Reply | More

yes I got my 3rd but I had a very hard time decided if I was going to put 207 as my 3rd and 236 as my 4th. I picked 207 for 3rd b/c it is closer- 236 is a better performing school but father away. If my zoned school was out of play as well as 222 which performs better than all of the schools I might have listed 236 as my 1st choice and 207 as my 2nd choice [ Reply | More

I understand completely. So what? She ranked her first choice, it no longer exists. She ranked her second choice, it no longer exists. She ranked her third choice (and may have gotten it). Had they told her the first two were not options months ago, she would have ranked the same. This may sound like it is very complicated and utterly unfair. But it isn't. It doesn't change the fact that if she didn't get into 222,227 she wanted next on the list. That is what happened. [ Reply | More

np: I'd argue with that. In underserved schools? Why not. The fact that all the citiwides are in manhattan is racist and classest. Wny should the DOE keep them open?--it absoultely excludes many people that can't afford to live in the borough. Access is totally messed up in this city. [ Reply | More

^^ and they figured that out when, in an attempt to be more fair, they tested kids in Queens and the Bronx that aren't even allowed to attend most of these schools and kids whose parents who work and live to far away. The system is broken and they're only going to fix it by acknowledging that there are other boroughs. [ Reply | More
