I'm pretty shocked to find out that some 99s only got their 3rd choice. It sounds like Anderson and NEST are 100% filled with 99s and siblings and there was some 99 overflow after that. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I was pretty surprised to see that also. I find it hard to believe that no 98s got a seat at NEST, since it's such a large K class. [ Reply | More ]

how many grades does NEST currently have? A K-12 school with many classes per grade will come with a lot of siblings. [ Reply | More ]

I think I heard only siblings in k-5 "counted" (so a sibling in NEST jhs/hs means absolutely nothing). [ Reply | More ]

Which makes perfect sense, MS kids travel to school by themselves so the shuffling kids to two schools does not apply. [ Reply | More ]

And there have always been more girl mom that boy moms on UB. It's quite obvious during the private process, where girl schools get scrutinized to death and boys schools hardly discussed at all. [ Reply | More ]

I think they might have geographically adjusted as well. People with G&Ts near their homes got those, not A or N. Might be wrong, but it would actually make sense. 3rd choice 99. [ Reply | More ]

It's not just Riverdale parents. There will be decent number of declines all around, as there always is in any admission process. Even Harvard gets turned down by some kids. [ Reply | More ]

I hope OSEPO handles this situation appropriately. It's one thing to decline because you just found out that your family is moving. But those people knew the logistics of getting to NEST from where they live ahead of time, but seem to have gotten swept up in the "citywide" madness. [ Reply | More ]

I'm one of them. I'm sorry I annoy you...we were fine with it...but following discussion with my husband last night and the issues that came up, I'm not doing it. We're doing what's right for our family and what seemed like it would be doable a month ago is causing a problem now. [ Reply | More ]

a mom at our private school turned down a spot for her younger child b/c he got a 99 on the OLSAT and therefor she assumed he would get into A. I really hope he did, but reading what I'm reading here, it seems like she took a huge gamble (well regarded private school, btw, but a school that leans progressive and she thought he needed a more traditional environment). Maybe there were other factors in her decision (maybe the financial reality sunk in after they got their private acceptance and they decided they couldn't make it work?). [ Reply | More ]

np: Two private school tuitions are a lot more money than just one, lots of families seem to split up kids when that reality hits. I was surprised when I found out how many kids in our public have siblings in private. [ Reply | More ]

so stupid because Anderson is also progressive. Hope she got into NEST, more traditional, if that's what she wanted. [ Reply | More ]

because if she had looked at anderson's educational approach at all she would have seen that it is basically a progressive school, what she is reportedly fleeing from in private. [ Reply | More ]

Same stats here--we didn't get Anderson or Nest, but are very happy with 166 (we were starting to panic about commute to Nest so if it couldn't be A, this was what we wanted) [ Reply | More ]

I'm disappointed, but not surprised that our ds, who scored 99, did not get either of our only two choices, A and NEST. We are district 15. We have a good local school but our son is already doing accelerated work (reading at about the 3rd/4th grade level) and we're nervous about him being bored in class. But I'm sure we can work something out with the school administration. Good luck to everyone who received placements! [ Reply | More ]

Am also a district 15 parent; haven't received the letter yet, but since our ds scored 98, seems like the citywide schools are a no way. Am curious what your zoned school is (321?). Thanks. [ Reply | More ]

We're zoned for PS29, in Cobble Hill. A very good school but would have loved an accelerated curriculum. It's time for a borough-wide G&T similar to Anderson, isn't it? One can dream.... Good luck with your placement. The waiting is the worst part. [ Reply | More ]

I'm trying to find a school for my daughter - so looking for various options. I thought 321 was the only one so far. Do you know - is PS29 as overcrowded as 321? Are there any downsides that you can think of? Thank you. [ Reply | More ]
