I never paid close attention to the nitty gritty details of the education at Anderson because I was convinced of its solid reputation and I never in a minute thought we would get in. I did not want to be invested in it. Now we're in! I cannot believe our good fortune. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

OP: I am going to call the school today to ask about registration, and I'll also ask about the rumored picnic for new families. I am hoping they'll have some kind of opportunity for the kids to see the school before Sept. 2nd. See you there! [ Reply | More ]

Anderon "aunt" here, meaning my nephew goes there: it's a great public school but dont think that doesn't mean you can relax. You still have to stay on top of things. The school is terrific but you still need to watch and demand changes all the way through. You need to work with the school and sometimes against it to be sure your kids get what they need. And you're up against the constant threat of cuts by the DOE, and you will constantly be pressured to donate time or cash. That said, it is an amazing situation and one of the best public situations you could pray for. [ Reply | More ]

Demanding changes is not the way to do things in any community. [ Reply | More ]

Anderson is overrated. Am I the only 99 mom who did not put Anderson as #1? [ Reply | More ]

Hopefully Dr. K turns LL into another Anderson - otherwise, you'll probably be sorry. [ Reply | More ]

huh? LL is a pretty good school. What's your beef with it? [ Reply | More ]

Biggest beef is lack of a good math curriculum -- does not prepare kids for middle school esp. out of district -- warm and fuzzy, but not really accelerated or challenging. DC at LL and DC at Anderson - Anderson is a better package. But I do think Dr K will be a huge improvement over current princ. [ Reply | More ]

I am not too worried about the math curriculum. DH is able to supplement whatever is needed. I like warm and fuzzy and the test scores speak for themselves. It's a good school. [ Reply | More ]

NEST is both a great middle school and has the best math curriculum around. [ Reply | More ]

I agree with the math curriculum. LL is supplementing TERC with Singapore techniques and others, though. [ Reply | More ]

We listed Anderson 1st because of the middle school. Other than that we actually liked LL a little better. Got LL and am happy with that, sort of relieved not to have to bus such a small child across the city. [ Reply | More ]

Nope - we didn't either. Put NEST first, and got it. [ Reply | More ]
