hey- newbie looking for guidance. my DD attends Kindergarten at a school with a GT program. My DD is doing so well in school she's reading 3 grades up... etc etc... she also is not a stellar test taker (she likes to leap ahead and guess.) so she got a 91 on the placement. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

sorry- screwed up- anyways they said today she couldn't get into the current school gt- only the one that is in a neighborhood far away... in a VERY not-good school in our district. If I decline, which i will- shes not emotionally strong enough to bus, to begin with- can i fight to get her into her local gt? is she still enrolled in her current school which i do like? is this my fault for filling out the form the way they said you should??? help im so disappointed!! OMG just stay in the school where you are. GT isn't REQUIRED. She will do fine in gen ed [ Reply | More ]

I totally agree. dd is very smart, didn't take any of the entrance tests but had a neuropsych eval because of learning issues and she scored very high on that. She's done really well with gen ed. thrived, in fact. she's consistently on the honor roll, and this year, made honor roll with distinction. meaning she maintained a grade average of above 95 overall for the year [ Reply | More ]

It is no ones "fault". Your child did not get in your first choice g&t. It happens. A 91 is not a great score. Just stay where you are and either be thankful your dc is doing so well, or try again next year. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know if you will have luck fighting this, but I do think this is one of the most absurd aspects of G&T. [ Reply | More ]

What is absurd about the fact her child got a 91 (with 90 being the lowest qualifying score) and didn't get her first choice, most desirable g&t? The seats were obviously filled with higher scoring dc. [ Reply | More ]

its not absurd that higher score dc get placed first- understand the principle- but instead of making efforts to place her in GT in the school she is already *in* which we live *next door to*, they aoffer to bus her to a GT across town- because no one likes the GT at that school and no one chose it...... Now she'll sit in a regular classroom next to a GT class filled with dc who maybe scored a point or two higher - and are getting bussed over to her school. Thats ANNOYING. [ Reply | More ]

I think a "keep kids in the school in which they're already enrolled" policy makes even more sense than a sibling policy (which I think makes sense as well). [ Reply | More ]
