Now I have to make a decision that I'm sure many would want to have to make, but it's killing me. 99-DD didn't get A., but we got PS 9G&T. We are zoned for 199, and both schools are close (slightly closer to 199) So, the decision is, would you pick 199 or PS9GT? Any BTDT moms or stories much appreciated. TIA. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

That's the only big issue, otherwise it would be a no-brainer. But OP has a girl so I'd probably still go with PS9. [ Reply | More ]

OP here -- can you explain why you say this with such certainty? The thing that puts me on the fence is the weirdness of having the three programs under one roof. Do you think the kids "get" the differences and it has an impact on them? [ Reply | More ]

Go with 9, switch to 199 if dc is not happy. The reverse is not an option. [ Reply | More ]

Actually this is not true, you can apply for G&T every year and kids are coming into PS9 from 87 and 9 in higher grades. But it's harder than moving into your zoned school. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know anything about 199, but we're facing a similar decision with G&T vs zoned. Do you like the program at 199? Would you have been happy with DC at 199? I don't think the answer is at all automatically "pick G&T." There's a lot to be said for some gen-ed schools. And yes, I would be put off by the three programs in one school and I've heard the kids AND the parents are all very aware of the distinctions.... [ Reply | More ]

199 is great, but suffers from a serious overcrowding issue, with more on the horizon (a reason why we applied out at all) They gave up separate art room, music room, etc., for 7 incoming kindergartens. Otherwise, student body and parent body seem wonderful. [ Reply | More ]
