How would you handle this situation. On my nanny's last day I had her pick up our daughter for her acclimation day at her new daycare. Although I told the head teacher the nanny would be picking her up, when she got there she was able to go right to the classroom. She told the workers she was there to pick up my daughter and they just said, "Ok." They didn't ask for ID or anything. I called later and they apologized and said something like that had never happened before and would never happen again. This just really unerved me and made me have second thoughts even though this daycare has received high marks. (We've been on the waiting list since I was 9 mo pregnant, my dd is 15 mo now.) that is a little scary... hmmm. i doubt it has never happened before. that is really not good. i would ask some of the other parents with children there if this has happened to them and then make your decision. [ Reply | More ]

OP: See that's what my gut tells me. The head teacher is awesome, but it seems as if the other helpers are just "phoning it in." They smile and play with the kids but they seem vacant to me. The head teacher had to leave for an appointment and she wasn't there when my dd was picked up. Makes me think, if she's not there what else could happen? [ Reply | More ]

TRUST YOUR GUT. Sounds like our first daycare, clueless all around. Being a nanny myself, I figured it out very fast, and quit to stay home. [ Reply | More ]

i would watch out for things like that, but it would not make me drop that daycare immediately. the only reason i say this is that when i first started leaving my dd at daycare i was so skeptical about everything. i felt suspicious of everybody, and felt none of them were reliable enough. but now, two years later, i love them. i guess i just mean that for some of us those early feelings of fear are natural but not lasting...
