I hate that others think my DD isnt smart because of the school we are attending. High 99 SB and OLSAT but no hunter or Anderson for us. Too young for private K so settled on a lower tier private pre K with ongoing (didnt attend preschool). The playground moms who are so "in the know" because they had their kids in preschool are acting like mine is lesser or dumb or I should have sent her to a 3's program. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

it's expensive and we didn't get a scholarship anywhere. Check that, we didn't really look into a scholarship anywhere. Figured we'd do public or private with FA. [ Reply | More ]

NP: Totally understand. Financially we couldn't send DS to preschool. He's a daycare educated kid w/ a 98 and a Hunter ding. Your DD sounds amazing. Ya know that all of these G&Ts are good schools. Just keep up her curiosity and she'll get a great education whereever she goes. [ Reply | More ]

You keep posting about this. Honestly who really cares what these people think. In a few short months you will be involved in a whole new communiy of people. You need to accept the fact that you know what is best for your dc and you family. Be confident about your choice. There are bright dc at all schools and the fact that these playground moms do not get this says a lot about who they are. [ Reply | More ]

np: I understand why OP cares. We all know we shouldn't care about certain things, but sometimes in certain circles and especially when it comes to our kids, it's hard not to get sucked into these things. [ Reply | More ]

OP: I guess I was hoping to have some friends now that we are entering the school world. The playground moms are not random strangers, they are the only moms I interact with other than a few friends from out of my neighborhood. [ Reply | More ]

It is such a mistake to try and force a friendship with people you don't like and have nothing in common with simply because you sit on the same bench and watch your children play. Didn't you have friends before you had children? What happened to them? You only need one or two good friends in life. If you don't have them now, find them elsewhere. They don't have to have children your childs age - heck they don't even have to have children. Good luck. [ Reply | More ]

This SOUNDS like good advice, but do you realize how difficult it is for a SAHM to find friends without kids???? [ Reply | More ]

No, I didn't find it difficult at all. I"m not being snarky or argumentative - honest. But, I had a life before (and even with children). This whole find all new friends who gave birth at the same time as I did is WEIRD, WEIRD, WEIRD to me. IF you meet a mom at a playground and hit it off - that is great! But to try and make friends with people who make you feel insecure, bad, whatever is insanity! And there are millions of people in this city. You can find them in your building, at church, wives of your dh's friends, thru any volunteering you do, friends of friends you already have. I am always so confused by the moms who lament these women at the playground or in dc's class being "mean" to them. Screw em. Go find a friend. [ Reply | More ]

So you must be happy with your private school, if you wouldn't consider any other school but Anderson, right? So why the OP? [ Reply | More ]

i didn't post that I'm unhappy with the school. i posted that I feel this sense of shame form the assumptions of others. And I can't do anythign about it because it's unspoken. I can't just blurt out, "I knwo you think we are settling because it's the best we could get but my kid is really smart and tested well! really!" [ Reply | More ]

personally i would find a way to blurt that out. opening up about your concerns about 'how others' might see it- "not these particular women, of course"- might help them get where u are comin from, besides everyone loves confessions. [ Reply | More ]

If you find yourself having to blurt out your dc's scores in conversations with friends to feel valued, you don't have friends. You have frenemies. [ Reply | More ]

I think at this point, anyone with half a shred of common sense recognizes that any private school is incredibly tough to get into these days and that there are 99's who are also lovely, well-behaved, charming children from nice families at all of them. Anyone who doesn't is really just a narrow-minded snob and not worth a minute of your time. [ Reply | More ]
