I would do Amalfi more for summer. Florence and Tuscany (love Lucca, for instance) would be great. Or one of the lakes (Garda is my favorite) and then Venice (which is miserable during summer but great and not so crowded in fall). [ Reply | More

OR: Lucca is my favorite small city in Tuscany - it's actually walled in, from the middle ages. Very beautiful, tons of great restaurants and shops. We did the drive from Venice to Florence in a few hours on the main highway. [ Reply | More
