DD and niece are several months apart (dd is younger). dd is very bright, verbal, etc, and niece doens't do the same things and seems sort of withdrawn. I really don't think that in the long term this will necessarily mean a thing about their intelligence, success, etc. However, other family members are constantly making praising comments about my dd in front of niece's parents and it makes me feel really awkward. At first I would say things like "yes, she's a good girl. We're proud of her but we know there's a hige spectrum in development" or something like that but then that seemed too pointed. What's the best way to handle? Or am I being overly sensitive? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

If it doesn't bother them I wouldn't make a big deal about it, especially in front of them. I would say something even more subtle like "Oh, it all evens out, kids are all different." [ Reply | More
