I don't live in NYC -- let me see if I understand this... those of you who can't afford private schools coach your 4 year olds to score 99 on a test so that dc can qualify for a spot in a good school and not attend your local failing school. How does the BOE justify spending more money on your child at the expense of the other 98% of kids in NYC? You all sound like greedy hags. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

First, many people don't coach their kids. Second, the DOE does not spend more money for G&T programs. In fact, they spend less money. But those schools *are* better because of money - the parents' own money. [ Reply | More ]

Per pupil budget allocations are made based on a myriad of factors, the biggest ones being socio economic. The free lunch figures are used to determine which schools will get additional city, state and federal funding. School performance is also a factor. Schools with economically disadvantaged kids have far more money per pupil than schools with kids who do not qualify for free lunch and who are academically successful. There is no extra given either per pupil or in any other way to G&T schools, indeed it's often less. [ Reply | More ]
