I am REALLY trying not to brag, but I am so happy for my dc to have gotten into Anderson. We have had a long hard road up to this point and are VERY grateful to have the chance to send our dc to this terrific school. Best of luck to everyone else! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

op: I am just saying that this whole process, starting almost 10 months ago when dc was just barely 4 yo, has been a long process. We did not try for privates so we did get to avoid all the application requests, ERB, private tours and interviews, etc. But dc did take SB, do the Hunter thing (#12 on w/l there), Dh and I went on many many public school tours and open houses, I went to many public school hearings and town hall meetings. DC took OLSAT. Entered and shut out of D3 lottery- which btw, I still have not recieved lottery # in the mail, just a letter saying we did not get a seat). Waiting for results and waiting for placement after many delays. it was tough. i am NOT saying that others didn;t have to go thru this mess (and some even worse). I am just extremely happy and grateful that my dc has the opportunity to go to Anderson. I wish there were enough seats for all of the dc who should be going there. [ Reply | More ]

I completely understand. Am feeling the same--incredibly happy, incredibly lucky, incredibly exhausted by it all. See you in the fall. [ Reply | More ]

"long hard road" is a bit dramatic, no? It's kindergarten for fuck's sake. "Long hard road" is fighting a devastating medical diagnosis in your child, or recovering from a terrible accident or pulling together after a death in the family or sudden divorce. Not attending "town hall meetings" and touring schools. Get over yourself. [ Reply | More ]

ITA. You have a little too much invested in this personally. You're not proud of your dd. You're getting a sense of accomplishment because this fairly random process turned out well for you. So completely sad. [ Reply | More ]

sadder still is that the way the random process worked out seems to confirm the merit or virtue of her family in her own mind, without any recognition that hundreds of equally (or more) deserving families were denied the same chance--out of sheer randomness. [ Reply | More ]

Op: as I said before, I know others have much bigger problems in life (that last part got cut off in one of my responses. ) It just seems as if you are bitter. I know it was randomness that got my dc chosen out of the other 99's. Can;t I just be happy? Wow, seems as if the "old UB" is back in full force today. [ Reply | More ]

op: Wow, I am NOT comparing the school process to anything like you are saying. I am only referring to the school process. You my dear need to get the fuck over yourself. [ Reply | More ]

To the OP (UB is not letting me ask in the right spot): Would you take Hunter now if offered? [ Reply | More ]

OP: I can;t respond to the will you take Hunter spot if offered. I doubt if it is going to happen. It would be a very hard decision to make. Location, sib policy, k-12 vs. K-8. No idea what we would do if it were to happen. [ Reply | More ]

After reading these posts I said to my kindergartner, who is at Nest now, "I hope you understand how lucky you are to be going to your school. So many kids (or families of those kids) would do anything for your spot. I sympathize with all of you going through this. Although this is nothing compared to going through terminal illnes or the like, when you are a middle class person who can't afford private and live in an area where the schools suck, Citywide G&T is your only option. I put all my eggs in Nest last year (no pun intended) and was lucky enough that my DC got in. Until I received my notification I was a wreck. If dc didn't get in, I would have considered moving to Jersey or Long Island just for the schools. Thank God I didn't have to do that!!!! [ Reply | More ]

of course I did -- she's a NEST kid! We talk about stuff like this all the time because she's brilliant. More brilliant than your kid who didn't get in. Sorry! [ Reply | More ]

I am going to ignore the stupidity of that person above who said that based on my statement, I think my kid is more brilliant than other kids. While she is smart, its her mother's tenacity and resourcefulness that helped to make the Nest thing happen for her. My ability to stay informed and meet deadlines made the difference. She just went in and sealed the deal when she scored high on that OLSAT test and performed well on her onsite assessment (last year admissions). As a matter of fact she doesn't even know that she is in a G&T school. [ Reply | More ]

No her mother is just less ignorant than your child's mother and would not make assumptions about other people like that. [ Reply | More ]
