OK, people, there's no way the DOE is sending employees out to hand-deliver letters. It would be scandalous if they were even using a messenger service. Do you really think the DOE has that kind of resources, and that it's using them in that way? When the city is cutting funds to schools? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

i am not suddenly in that camp-I have been for a long time. if klein et al truly wanted an equitable system, strengthen the zoned schools across the board, then do multiple city wide g&t schools beg in 4th grade when you will have a more accurate picture of who is truly gifted, not those who are prepped [ Reply | More

actually, it sounds about right. If you look at what private spends per student vs public, public actually spends more most of the time. It's just not spent well. I think this would be a perfect expenditure so that they can keep whining about needing more money for education [ Reply | More

Do you realize that the DOE has internal staff who make deliveries all the time AND they use summer interns (unpaid) to do all kinds of jobs like this? It could be in conjunction with another city agency jobs program. This isn't about G&T draining resources. There are many, many ways the DOE drains resources from schools, but delivering letters today by hand so parents have a week to decide instead of 3 days if they went via mail - just isn't a money drain on the education system. DOE has crazy resources and a huge budget. They mis-appropriate funds and mis-manage funds all the time. Why do you find this surprising? The press is all over G&T, the Chancellor needs middle class families in the system and will do whatever it takes to make them happy.
