concussion question --- 3 yo ds tripped on the bed this evening and banged his forehead, just above his eye, on the bed rail. It was a loud thud. I picked him up immediately he looked a bit shocked, asked for some ice, and then said he was fine. I am pretty sure I would have noticed if he passed out, and I just checked on him and he seemed fine. Do I need to wake him up? Or would there be other clues if he had a concussion? My niece had one and she vomited. She hit her head on the bathroom floor and was lethargic. I think you sound in the clear but call your ped hotline just to aks [ Reply | More ]

np: My DS didn't lose consciousness right away - a few minutes later his eyes rolled back in his head and he was out. We were only a few blocks away from ER, so we ran him over. He came to about halfway there, but was groggy and not answering questions. Mild concussion. The ER watched him for 8 hours, then sent us home and he was fine. (We were fried and terrified) [ Reply | More ]

That sounds terrifying. So glad he was fine in the end. [ Reply | More ]

I'm just grateful for an older ER doc who stepped in when the younger one wanted to do a CT-scan (which would have required him to be sedated). That would have been awful, the older doc thought they could watch him for any signs of severe trauma before deciding to do the test. [ Reply | More ]

Sounds as if it's fine, but don't take my word for it, of course. [ Reply | More ]
