Friend was home when G&T letter arrived. She didn't try her dc out for G&T bec she thought it'd be too hard to get a school she wants for her dc. My dc got into the school we wanted. She was rather cold. I mean, she didn't try at all, and she can't be mad. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

People get weird about this stuff. We live in D1 and a lot of people we know didn't apply because they say they don't believe in G&T. Which, you know, fine with me. But some of them get truly hostile toward people who did apply. The underlying assumption seems to be that if you applied you must think your dc is somehow better than theirs. Well, in our case the general eds are bad, but almost everyone wants to send their dc to one of the progressive publics: Earth School, Neighborhood, etc. And if you don't want the same thing it must be because you think dc is too good for them. But I agree about not playing politics. If your friend is acting cold, just remember this subject makes a lot of otherwise nice people behave badly. So try to cut her some slack and hopefully she'll get over it. [ Reply | More

I know how you feel. This process really does make people weird. I have a friend who is not really talking to me b/c I chose private and she chose a gen ed public for her dd (that my dc cannot even attended b/c of our zone). Most people, I think, get past this.
