Potty training advice??? I realize it's a toddler's nature to not want to let go of an activity to go to the bathroom to pee/poop. We, as adults are the same way. However, she wants to hold it and hold it and inevitably ends up wetting herself (enough to change her to a new pantie) before heading to the bathroom and finishing off. It's never a full blown accident. She just keeps waiting until she can't hold it fully and has a mini accident and wets herself before she decides it's time to go to the bathroom. What techniques/motivators have you used to get your toddler to go to the bathroom when he/she first feels the need to go (instead of waiting too long)? I've tried reward/gift baskets, songs, stories at night about her favorite characters going potty at the right time, etc... These have not worked! Any advice? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

we had to teach dd that being trained meant "going" not "holding." Simple rewards, were best for us.....if your panties are dry all morning...you put a star on the chart. 5 stars, you get to put a big sticker on the chart...no dates or calendars at this point. I will tell you we had to work on and off until she was 4.5...she liked being "busy." And I had to be the potty reminder mommy if I saw any signs of wiggling etc. She is til like this at 6.....hates to miss anything. Some times now, I pretend to have a remote and I "flick" whatever game she is in the middle of on pause until she pees! [ Reply | More ]

Thanks for the info. It's greatly appreciated! So far rewards in general don't seem to be enough of a motivator, but I DO like the definition of trained as "going" not "holding". Hadn't thought about clarifying that.... Thanks again! [ Reply | More ]
