Any suggestions for 2 yr old toddler waking up at 1am and not wanting to go back to sleep in his crib? Has no problems putting himself to sleep at bedtime but can't seem to put himself back when he wakes up in the night. Tried laying on his floor and that did not work and CIO does not seem to work at this point either? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

How long are you letting him cry? Do you take him into your bed? [ Reply | More ]

One night I let him cry from 2am to 6am at which point I had to take him out--now I have been bringing him in my bed at 1am and he sleeps there until 6:30 but he tosses and turns and no one sleeps. How can I break this habit--the CIO method might work if I let him cry like that every night but it is so difficult [ Reply | More ]

That's tough. I went through something similar with my 19 mo, but CIO worked for him. Once he falls back to sleep in your bed, are you able to bring him back to his own bed (that sometimes worked with my db when he was fast asleep)? Also, how is he going to bed at night - do you just put him in the crib or is there some other routine. [ Reply | More ]

CIO worked for me when he was a little younger but now he has more stamina! If I bring him back to his crib, he wakes up b.c I have a tent on the crib b.c he climbed out once so when I go to zip it, he wakes up. We read books in the chair in his room for a while before bed and then I put him in and he talks and plays in there for like 20 minutes and then goes to sleep so I know he is able to put himself to sleep initially without my help. Same goes for naps--goes in very easily but wakes up like clockwork after 45 min and won't finish nap unless he is in my bed where he can sleep for another hour atleast--I want him to get sleep b.c otherwise he is a disaster but I want to break this habit as well.... Ugh, I don't know what to tell you. Does Ferber have any info on this? I'm just hoping this doesn't happen to us. My db has had sporadic periods of good sleep and otherwise been difficult. [ Reply | More ]

I have not read ferber in a while but I think I will see if there is anything--all of the books I have read gie solutions on getting them able to put themselves to sleep and that basically solving the issue but that is not my issue....yeah, same was for me, he has had sporadic periods of being OK but not ever a great sleeper but now it is just horrible!
