Some parents have not responded to my notes about the contribution to the class party/teachers gifts. I guess I have to call and see what they are going to do. I hate doing that, I feel so uncomfortable. What to say? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

OP- There is a possibility they did not get my e-mail or note though. Plus, some of the money is paying for food at our party so it is really needed, and unfair for some not to contribute anything. I want to make an effort to get everyone to participate. [ Reply | More ]

This is not a mandatory thing. Get over it. Not everyone wants to pay for such frivolities. Suck it up and pay more than "your" share if you want to move forward with this silliness. [ Reply | More ]

unless it is a private school, let it go. Even if it is private, it is totally fair, they didn't vote to have the party [ Reply | More ]

I hate those rules. If I wanted to contribute I would have given you the money or I would given some kind of gift ti the teachers myself. Also, why would you collect money for the food? Make it a potluck and everybody is happy. [ Reply | More ]

np: Why don't you call and leave a nasty message like the bitchy class mom did to me today? Completely ignore that sometimes parents have bad weeks with a kid with scarlett fever and now two more family members with strep. After all, you are class mom, you demand to be followed. [ Reply | More ]

OP- re: potluck-a few ppl are bringing treats but basically it is an ice cream party, so that needs to be bought for everyone. Plus toppings etc. And a fruit salad/platter. Nothing crazy. [ Reply | More ]

OP- What is the big difference between an end of year party and a birthday party? why is one overindulgent and the other isn't?? aren't they both optional? [ Reply | More ]

Actually, no. Just because you CAN have a party doesn't mean you SHOULD. It's called OVERINDULGENCE, and it spoils the child. [ Reply | More ]

I like the laid back kind of thinking but I disagree that the kids don't care. They are very well aware of the fact that the school year end is nearing. They really do want a party like this (at least 4 and 5yos do; 2 or 3yo more or less don't care) [ Reply | More ]

OP- re: OVERINDULGENCE poster: so that means no parties, no gifts, no treats ever? Because just bc you can doesn't mean you should. No one ever HAS to do anything but it's called celebrating and making a fun day for the kids. Pull the stick out and try it sometime. [ Reply | More ]

I only have a 1yo but I can see myself being you in a few years, dealing with the unappreciative, uninvolved parents in the class. "We won't thank you for bucking up and dealing with everything, we'll just ignore and say you are overindulgent. Also, we won't chip in $15 or help a bit but we will gladly enjoy the party take credit for all of it" [ Reply | More ]

OP- yup, that's me. but don't be discouraged, most of the parents ARE willing to help and do appreciate. But there are always those that are cheap and take advantage. I do try not to let them get away with it bc it's so not fair to everyone else. [ Reply | More ]

I think you need an attitude tweaking. Don't call other parents names, don't assume you know what is going on in their life financial or otherwise. Volunteering at your dc's school is great. But conduct yourself in a kind, graceful manner. If you can't do that, then maybe don't take on the task, kwim? [ Reply | More ]

In real life, you never know who has money and who doesn't. Neither dh or I need to work again. Not one person has any clue. The "wealthiest" people you know, go bankrupt in a second. You simply never know. [ Reply | More ]

I will be collecting money at XX - if you can't make it, please email me and I'll arrange another way to pick it up. If you are choosing not to participate, please disregard this message."
