I am in a serious RUT. My job is a dead end one yet pays well. I am 38 yrs old, 1 db and have NO direction. I want to set goals BUT have no idea as to what I even want. I've been like this for years. I have depression/anxiety (taking meds) BUT I can't seem to get motivated. I hate living like this - I feel like I am just getting through each day. I love my baby sooo much and feel guilty for being so negative. Any suggestions as to what can make me do something already? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

hmm, totally understand that feeling. i think honestly that with a small dc, lower your expectations of your life goals moving forward, and if you don't have them yet, of creating them. you're already pretty occupied and if you have a good paying job, if you can try to just be satisfied with that and enjoy your time with dc and figure you'll get goal-full about your life in a few years, do that. i really think it's hard to think big personal picture when you have a small dc, and the stress is distracting you from what's there now. and, i also think the watched pot never boils applies here- life direction will probably come out of happy distracted state more than focusing on it. as you can see, i've been there (and maybe still am) [ Reply | More ]

and if you're enjoying reading, just do a lot of that. also remember, if you really ask people, most people don't have much direction, most people are muddling through somewhat. so, at least you're not alone. [ Reply | More ]

Accept your job for what it is (a way to earn money). Try to think of goals around doing things with/for your dc that you will enjoy working towards. [ Reply | More ]

really depends. i think there's a difference between being in a rut and being in a funk. if you're in a funk, you need a hobby, an activity you do once a week or so (tennis? swimming? pottery?). if you are in a rut, you need to reevaluate what you want out of life. [ Reply | More ]
