Having trouble finding a baby nurse who's available in July. Any ideas on where to look? I did find one person, but she quoted me $20-25/hr, which would total $480/day or more. Seems high if I wanted her to stay 24 hrs. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Call a good agency///Fox Agency really came through for us with very short notice. First time, we had a weird baby nurse rec'd by a friend who left after one day and we wanted a quick replacement and had one n 24 hours and the second time I just was a busy WOHM and hadn't really focused and db came 3 weeks early: called from the hospital. I only want someone for the first week to show us the ropes, and since we don't know what happens when, 24 hours makes sense. We know nothing about kids and don't have any friends or family who can help us, so while you might be confident that it's not that hard, we're not. [ Reply | More ]

Someone can do this for you for a few hours a day, tops. The ropes: they sleep, then they wake up. You change them, feed them, let them be awake for a little while, and then they go back to sleep. Repeat. Bathing is interesting at first, but you quickly get the hang of it [ Reply | More ]

OP: if you don't have family near by, this is a good idea. BTW, I had our baby nurse for the first 8-10 or so days home from the hospital (fox OR above). DH went back to work pretty quickly, put everything in order at the office, and then, when the baby nurse left, he took off a a week or two from work. This worked really well. I was reasonably comfortable bfing so we could go out for walks together and I had learned how to pump so dh practiced giving dbs a bottle. Good Luck. [ Reply | More ]

If you can afford it and find a good one go for it. My MIL (who is great) was able to show me the ropes and it does make life easier. If you don't have friends/family to help out I think this is a good option. GL [ Reply | More ]
