Just found out that not ONE anesthesiologist at NY Presbyterian/Cornell Weill accepts GHI. My due date is soon. I guess I'm screwed. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I am!!! I was the best student in Lamaze. I just don't know if I have enough tolerance for pain to endure it. [ Reply | More ]

I did one natural because I couldn't push with the epidural and one natural since the baby came so fast there was no time to find the MD... you get through it when you have to, but if you're frightened of the pain you should pony up and relax through the birth... [ Reply | More ]

I will try to relax. How painful was it? My friend said she felt it in the back of her head and she still has flashbacks. [ Reply | More ]

You know... it's not really something you can describe, but howevre painful it is, it ends... it's not something that goes on indefinately. I did it, and I'm certainly no glutton for punishment, but if you had to you could do it too... Maybe the other poster is correct and you got bad information... [ Reply | More ]

If you really want an epi that 1200 bucks won't seem like that big of a deal. [ Reply | More ]

Was your bill 1200?? I would be happy with that - the hospital told me epi is about $560/per hour. My sil was on epi for 10 hours so I'm scared about how high the bill will go [ Reply | More ]

Mine was a flat fee, insurance covered most, but the total was 1200. No idea why they would charge by the hour, once it's placed the med that goes in is cheap and your nurse can monitor it. [ Reply | More ]

They told me that every "unit" is 15 minutes at a cost of $140. They get paid even though they are not there. Damn them. [ Reply | More ]

Wow - and I thought mine was pricey considering that the guy was only in my room for 10 minutes... [ Reply | More ]

if your OB is covered the hospiltal should be as well. you will have an out of network co payment i am sure but you will not be responsible for the entire bill. Where did you get your info? [ Reply | More ]

My OB is out of network and I'm fine with that - GHI will reimburse me about half the total of my OB fee. My info is true bec I checked with everyone (hospital, my OB billing office, GHI) I will get a bill from the hospital for my total pain medicine bec anesthesiologists bill independently. But don't you have a out of network maximum? You should be able to send the bill to your Ins company and they will pay most if not all, if you have met your family out of network maximum. I guess I am lucky to have such great ins. I payed $100 for my entire pregnancy. [ Reply | More ]

I don't exactly have a maximum but I qualify for "catastrophic" allowance. They claim to pay 80% of "reasonable" charges - but what they consider reasonable scares me (i.e. my amnio was $1400 - GHI sent me a check for $176 (not a typo) You can see why I'm scared [ Reply | More ]
