I fed my 16 mo rasberries for the first time today and he broke out in a rash/hives all over his body a few hours later. It seemed to be going away so I gave him a half-teaspoon of Benadryl just to be safe. Is this something to worry about? Should I call the doctor? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I would make an appointment with an allergist. [ Reply | More ]

lots of kids are allergic to berries when younger. i'd say just hold off on giving rasps to him again for a while. if he keeps breaking out, then talk to your ped. but my feeling is if you take him to an allergist, you're going to find allergies. [ Reply | More ]

you did the right thing, but I'd call my ped just to let them know and ask if they wanted to see dc or if they had any further advice. [ Reply | More ]

ask ped if there are other berries you should avoid giving, in light of allergic reaction to raspberries. strawberries are common in terms of allergies, not sure about blueberries and other berries. [ Reply | More ]
