anyone can slap montessori in their name. There are 100 different "montessori" approaches. Did you read the original book about it? [ Reply | More ]

Then she should read about it, but caution her to be careful, as I said, anyone can call their approach montessori so the schools in the US are wildly different. [ Reply | More ]

teacher here. i like the idea, but it does not work for everyone. monterssoris very student-directed and public schools are very teacher-directed. this can be a tough transition for some kids. however, i know lots of kids who went to a monteressori preschool and flourished there. [ Reply | More ]

we have loved it and our 2 dcs have thrived in the environment. But there is a wide range of "montessori" so it's important to research and tour to get a handle on just how each particular school does things. Also there are 2 groups who "certify" schools, the AMI and AMS. AMI is more hardcore. AMS is more Montessori-American style or Montessori-lite. Our DD was in AMI and DS in AMS. Each had advantages and things we wished were different. All that said, I don't think Montessori will be the best thing for DC #3 so we're looking at other options. It really depends on the kid. when we were applying for preschool I dint liek the idea of it but liked what i saw in action. both kids have been at montessori preschool, different personalities, each thrived in their own way (and each had issues in their own way, but that would have happened anywhere). [ Reply | More ]
