dh is looking for a job (his current one ends mid August). we have a week long family reunion in UK that we've planned on going to with our dc for a year at least during the 1st week of June. I'm starting to wonder if he should take that time off from job searching, but I can't take the kids by myself. My grandmother bought us tickets and I hate to cancel, but of course a job is most important. What would you do? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Take the vacation. Work comes eventually, but a vacation you have to DO. I only regret vacations I didn't take. I've never regretted taking one... [ Reply | More ]

make sure he can take cell phone calls over there and he'll still be able to answer calls, do phone interviews, etc... [ Reply | More ]

op-thank you all. what makes me nervous is he hasn't had an interview yet (found out about the layoff 1 month ago)-he's mainly been researching and making contacts, etc. mainly its his MOTHER who gets me feeling nervous (she thinks no one works as hard as they used to, etc). He is a hard worker, very bright and has quite a few contacts, so I think he'll find something by August. And my grandmother is in her 80s, so this trip will be really special as of course we don't know how much longer she will be able to travel like this. I just started questioning it and dh knows I really want to go and he's super easy going, so I didn't want to ruin his job search. So, what should he tell people like if they want him to interview while we'll be gone? Just that he's out of town that whole week, but can do an interview such and such day? How does he make it sound like he's not a slacker? (not that he is-we only take "free" vacations with family like this) [ Reply | More ]
