My husband and I are in the beginning stages of discussing adoption. Can anyone recommend resources? Obviously googling brings up so many different sites to explore, it's a little overwhelming. Any specific places you would advise us to begin with? TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

We adopted through Spence-Chapin on the UES. Great resources and well know & respected agency. They can help you think through all of the different questions. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Thank you. Did you adopt domestically or Int'l? I hope you don't mind my asking. [ Reply | More ]

No worries, we adopted internationally (three years ago), BUT the international scene is a mess right now and several countries have temporarily shut down international adoption. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, from what I've read there has been a fair number of illegal adoptions and now the Hague has issued an Int'l referendum of sorts. I know that regulations are beyond necessary, but I wonder how many kids will be lost in the bureaucracy. [ Reply | More ]

we adopted our toddler six months ago. I also recommend looking at spence-chapin, we used another good agency. Adoption.com is also helpful. Keep in mind that the initial paperwork you do will be helpful for any country, and then when you have that done you can switch to another country as things are always shifting in international adoption. The agencies don't really position it this way, but I found it to be true. Also, go with a big, reputable agency so that if one country closes, they will have others. Ours is chsfs.org.
