of course, do you want your child to be the only one without practice?... and your child will be tested by a stranger, so don't tell me you can do it yourself [ Reply | More ]

We did the sample "test a few times" - hired no tutors. Played it like a game. DD got a 99% on both tests. [ Reply | More ]

count your lucky stars, you and DD were very lucky leaving it to chance like that, prepping gives at least a 20% advantage [ Reply | More ]

so he's probably not gifted and will end up in over his head and feeling really great about himself when he sees everyone else in class can do things easier than he can. that's awesome parenting!! Can't kids just be kids? [ Reply | More ]

are you going to send your child to take the SAT without preparation? [ Reply | More ]

what does the OLSAT have to do with the SAT? The OLSAT does not test for knowledge that was acquired within 13 years of schooling. SAT prep is a refresher and reinforces things you are supposed to know. The OLSAT is in a totally different category. [ Reply | More ]

the OLSAT only tests the ability to pay attention and listen [ Reply | More ]

well, and be able to answer quite sophisticated questions (for a 4yo, that is) [ Reply | More ]

nothing sophisticated about the questions, let's not exaggerate the abilities of these kids - 99% on Stanford-Binet is impressive, 99% on OLSAT is merely the ability to hold the attention of the child for 10 minutes more than the next. [ Reply | More ]

so, your kid aced the practice test without any mistakes? The OLSAT correlates with IQ tests. It is not as reliable for young kids due to the fact that it takes a certain level of maturity, though. Don't fool yourself that acing the OLSAT is such an easy feat for most kids. [ Reply | More ]

looks like someone swallowed the Kool Aid - the practice test is what 5 questions? The OLSAT is 40 questions. The maturity you speak of is really the ability to sit for those 40 questions. If you want your child to do well then you need to prepare them to sit for 40 questions with a stranger. Just dont see how any of you can argue against that unless you are trying to persuade others gainst test prep so your kid has a chance. [ Reply | More ]

oh, boy. Here we go again. Yes, sitting with a stranger for 40 questions is a requirement and that can be practiced etc. Or the kid already is able to do that (higher level of maturity). That said, this is not a counter argument to the fact that the OLSAT does resemble an IQ test to a certain degree. That has NOTHING to do with prepping a child. This skews the test results and is considered cheating. [ Reply | More ]

did you read that "edge for life" blog? They interviewed a tester. Alos I would say the OLSAT gets yor child into a good school program, most everyone would agree that it is really not G&T assessment [ Reply | More ]

I really don't get it. I for one, hope that none of you do test prep, that way my DS will have a better chance to get into a decent school; especially after all of the rallies going on around the city with the over crowding situation. [ Reply | More ]

The test is normed for kids who haven't prepped. Lets say, for argument's sake that you really get a ten point bump. That means your kid who would get a 90 now has a 99. You can brag to your friends s/he got into Anderson. Yeah. Then around second grade your kids is going to be miserable because s/he is overwhelmed by the other kids in the class. Homework will become a battle and school will become a chore. If my kid can't get into a G&T on his merit, so be it. [ Reply | More ]

We did not prep at all, and never even saw a practice test.Honestly, my ds probably would have been bored out of his mind at the actual test and not done as well had we prepped him. He missed 1 on the OLSAT and 0 on the BSRA, by the way. [ Reply | More ]
