my son was placed in a CCT class and what bothers me the most is that I was not notified prior. I specifically requested that he not be, but they placed him in anyway. The school did not respond to a letter, nor 2 phone calls I placed prior to the new classes beginning. Honestly, if there was more communication, I may have felt more at ease with their decision to place him in the class. My fear is that he will be "labeled". He is a bright child who is going into kindergarten knowing how to write his name, knows his full address and phone number, letters and coordinating sounds and speaks in full sentences, can navigate a computer incredibly well. He has been in a structured school setting since he was 18 months old. I have questions to present to the teachers, like which one is special ed and which is the general ed teacher?, What's the mix of the class? how will my son benefit? [ Reply | More ]

I don't want to make a bad name for us as new parents at this school, so I am going to speak with his teacher and get more details. As this was only his second day of school, I would expect the teachers to observe the children and some may move to different classrooms. I want to see what she has observed and get her thoughts. So far, she appears to be good at communicating, so I am anticipating her being honest and understanding of our concerns. I may request a transfer, depending on the mix of the classroom as well. I just feel as though I don't have enough information to make a big stink at this point (other than the principal not responding to my letter). I do tend to give the benefit of the doubt, I understand enrollment is difficult to get through. [ Reply | More ]

If you are in public you don't get to choose about this, sorry. Once your dc has been in CTT class once you can say no more. [ Reply | More ]
