i read a report by a supposedly nonpartisan group about what mccain and obama would do to our taxes according to their plans. i pretty much hate both plans but had to laugh that obama's would add $700,000 to the highest earners' (2.9 mil) tax burden. no clue what someone making 2.9 mil is paying now but even at that level $700,000 has got to hurt! lower taxes by about $1,000/yr if i remember correctly. basically the differences were that mccain lowered taxes for everyone but the biggest cuts went to people who earned 600,000+ Obama raised taxes for 600,000+ but lowered for everyone else. [ Reply | More ]

^and mccains tax cuts for anyone making less than 200,000 were something like $13 for the year so it was basically not lowering for anyone but the wealthy. [ Reply | More ]

I think that sounds great. Sign me up if that's true. [ Reply | More ]

that sounds like a surprising number. 700k is 25% of 2.9m. He's planning on raising taxes by 25% in addition to what they are paying now? [ Reply | More ]

Hm. I don't think anyone should have to pay a third of their income to the government. That's ridiculous. [ Reply | More ]

are you kidding me? dh doesn't even make $200,000 and we pay close to 1/3 in taxes. i know being at the 30% tax bracket isn't the same as paying 30% of your income in taxes but it's close!! [ Reply | More ]

np (actually previous OR). this is saying 25% above what they are paying now. so even if they are paying only 25% (and they probably aren't), that's 50% straight to taxes. doesn't sound like this would fly. [ Reply | More ]

i know - while it woudn't affect me personally, i just wish obama would come up with a plan that would fly with high earners. [ Reply | More ]

np: It could mean 25% more than they are paying now, meaning if they are now paying 25%, it will be around 31.25%. [ Reply | More ]
