Just leased a new car - are we crazy for thinking we can park it safely on the street in Brooklyn?? We refuse to pay for a garage, although once DH saw the car, he is having second thoughts! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Well, my dh has a nephew who owns a Brownstone (B/T Smith and Hoyt - so Cobble Hill/Boerum Hill?) near some projects though... I think he will actually park it for us when it has to be moved if we aren't using it lets say... we live in Brooklyn Heights so that would be a nightmare... [ Reply | More ]

I live in BH, there is no parking. there are the projects there, but if he has a space you might be ok. likely to be dinged though [ Reply | More ]

eeesh... i guess that's what we have insurance for - the car itself is a stretch for us (until i get my licence and work covers it!), and the garage would put us over budget for sure... thanks all! [ Reply | More ]

brooklyn is a big place - where do you live? But no, its not THAT safe, though you are more likely to suffer damage than theft, but you get damage in garages, too [ Reply | More ]

The second day I parked my new car on the street in Manhattan, I was backed into a few times and got a big dent on the driver's side door...that was only after 48 hours of having it. Needless to say, it looked like complete shiit after parking it on the street for 6 months. Remember you are going to have to pay for all the dents that are not considered "wear and tear". It can get expensive. [ Reply | More ]

thank you! Very good point! DH came home and said garage in our building was "only" $325... we may end up doing it... [ Reply | More ]
