I'm with you. I now get so offended when I hear women say that they don't want a relationship with their MILs because they already have a mother. [ Reply | More ]

I hate when I see posts form dil here where they don't want in-laws as involved with grand kids etc. I know it will bother me if I have 2nd class access to my grand kids. [ Reply | More ]

np: I suspect that it's because a lot of MILs are really pushy early on in the relationship, desperately forcing a closeness that doesn't exist yet. I feel really lucky that my MIL let our relationship grow over time. Most of my friends have MILs who are all ultimatums or drama queens. [ Reply | More ]

hell to the yes. i adore my MIL but she absolutely respects boundaries and that is one reason. we have gotten closer over time and she didn't force things. [ Reply | More ]

but what does that mean. she knew better than to expect you to let her stay in the same house, and made hotel reservations. meanwhile your own mom has a place on the couch/guestroom? should I start managing my expectations now. I btw have the meanest most abbrasive mil but where possible I have tried to give her the same access to our family as I give my own mom. At times I offered her more. This hasn't help our relationship but there you go. [ Reply | More ]

the np: As a women who just gave birth, I wanted my mother's help when the baby was first home. My MIL completely understood, and visited for a week when the baby was 2 weeks old. The weird thing would be a MIL who didn't understand their DIL's feelings of needing their own mother at a time like that. [ Reply | More ]

well, by the time i had kids,i'd known her for 14 years or so. so she and my mom both stayed on my sofa, but my MIL let my mom be the one there for the birth and the first few days. other than that they are treated exactly the same. MIL is retired adn my mom is not, so she actualy sees my kids more. [ Reply | More ]
