If NEST doesn't fill classes and there isn't a waitlist, why can't sibs who didn't make cutoff be given spot? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

why can't kids who got a 97+ who didn't get a placement that they wanted at Nest be given a spot? They qualified, sibs did not [ Reply | More ]

ITA. Enough with the sibs priority. [ Reply | More ]

NP: You are misreading the original post. If a 97 wanted a spot at NEST, then they would have been offered it. [ Reply | More ]

Not necessarily. There is no WL, so if more of the kids decline spots than expected there may be spots while 97/98 scoring kids are not placed there. [ Reply | More ]

There are about three people below with high scores saying they will decline Nest spots if they are offered. Those spots will go unfilled unless DOE does some sort of wait list system [ Reply | More ]

np: Exactly. So far, there will be no wait lists. [ Reply | More ]

So far this whole process has been a moving target. I would not assume what the DOE says today is what it will say tomorrow. [ Reply | More ]

True enough. But there's no basis for assuming that they will resort to wait lists either. [ Reply | More ]

That's why we should all proceed if there aren't going to be any. [ Reply | More ]

np above: I gotcha. You are saying a 98/97 selected NEST but didn't get it because it was filled with 99s and or other 98s... OK. Never mind. [ Reply | More ]

Honestly I think this is what will quietly happen at the beginning of the school year when classes are not filled. [ Reply | More ]

Mechanically how would it work though? NEST administrators would have to go back to OSEPO to identify potential students to call and offer seats to. [ Reply | More ]

I think she meant that sibs would fill the seats--they could dod that without involving OSEPO [ Reply | More ]

I just think with a citywide school, there should be some limit on admitting sibs. A sib with a score lower than 97 should not get in ahead of a 97 or 98. [ Reply | More ]

I agree 100%. But I don't think the DOE will wildly advertise that because it will create mass chaos on acceptances with people turning down spots in hope they get something better later. If, however, people legitimately don't enroll in a G&T (either get none of their selected choice, or choose their zone school instead), there is nothing to say they can't keep calling OSEPO all summer to ask about openings... I'd like to know what the tester says is the margin of error/reliability within the various scores. How different is a 98 going to be than a 97, given the test and all... [ Reply | More ]
