long book: Crmson Petal and the White about Victorian era Prostitution (fiction), fun fiction paperbacks: The Golden Compass (first of series) by Pullman. Young adult fiction, but good for adults too. Interesting new book (but hardcover) People of the Book by Pulitzer prize winner. Fiction about the speculative history of the Sarevo Haggadah. Where are you going, btw...always intersting to have a book about your destination. [ Reply | More ]

^^I also agree with Wicked suggestion below...an imagined geo-political history of OZ, not centered on Dorothy. Another long, Euro-book: The Historian....an academci goes in search of real vampires, total fiction, mysterious and gothic, btu long. Not a quick Ann Rice type. [ Reply | More ]

Crimson Petal was pure pulp. A real disappointment, imho. [ Reply | More ]

I may get flamed, but I'm reading David McCullough's biography of John Adams becuase I loved the HBO special. Not my usual choice of reading material, but I'm half way through and loving it. [ Reply | More ]

Wicked. I second Crimson Petal; Mademoiselle Boleyn; Jennifer Weiner has a new book out as does Sophie Kinsella, if you like chick lit. YA series by Libba Bray (Gemma Doyle trilogy, but can't remember title of first book. Could NOT put those down.) [ Reply | More ]
