we did not; luckily, we had a district G&T choice and a citywide G&T choice. we went with citywide choice. this was a couple of years ago -- dc is finishing up 1st grade now. [ Reply | More ]

No, not a good school went to a citywide but would have gone private otherwise [ Reply | More ]

No, low test scores, etc, 1% white kids, probably getting into a better zoned school. [ Reply | More ]

no, because my dc is highly gifted and the tests nore that out. Feel he will be better served in G&T or private. zoned school is pretty good, but I felt he should have a shot at a more enriched, differentiated curriculum. [ Reply | More ]

In district 2, the curriculum is the same for g&t and for general ed. I hope you are somewhere else. [ Reply | More ]

I understand that, but feel the smarter peer group, and teachers used to working with an overall smarter group of kids may allow for more enriched, differentiated experience over waht is possible in gen ed. friends with kids in G&T have confirmed that this is the case. [ Reply | More ]

no because my own personal ego will only be satisfied with citywide gifted or TT [ Reply | More ]

maybe I am less of an ego maniac, or perhaps smarter, but I would definitely prefer a top district G&T over some of the citywides. [ Reply | More ]

agree about TT though. would not take a lousy private only to get stuck there for the next 9-13 yrs. [ Reply | More ]

poster above--there should have been a comma between "citywide" and "gifted" I meant both (plus Hunter) and my tongue was planted firmly in my cheek [ Reply | More ]

we picked a school and moved into the zone. 2x actually, once in brooklyn and once in manhattan. toured a lot of schools and did a lot of research then went apt shopping! [ Reply | More ]

Doesn't it scare the crap out of those of you who bought for a zoned school that you are not guaranteed the zoned school, per DOE? [ Reply | More ]

no, if they rezone, move. It's not THAT bad. [ Reply | More ]

it is, because the value of your property could decline drastically with re-zoning. [ Reply | More ]

if your child is already in, then you are fine even if they do rezone. So, the moral is, don't buy too soon if the only reason you are buying said apartment is for the school zone, wait until your child is close to K age. [ Reply | More ]

Have already decided to choose district G&T over our zoned school (which has a decent rep in the 'hood). District program offers much better arts enrichment, guarantees small class size and peer group. Not sure how it will work out, but we're trying it. [ Reply | More ]

No, not a good zoned school. I prob. wouldn't choose most zoned schools anyway. We're waiting for G&T placement. [ Reply | More ]

BTDT. Our zoned school could hardly even be called mediocre. We applied for G&Ts and ongoings and dc received acceptances from both. In the end we opted for ongoing. The more interactions we had with the DOE, the less we wanted to be part of that system. [ Reply | More ]

^ Sorry. I didn't read the OP carefully enough. We were a public school family for pre-K but now we're not. But I still think of us as a public school family. [ Reply | More ]
