i have some family visiting nyc for the first time next week who want me to recommend an italian and an asian (somewhere offering sushi and non-sushi options). there are 6 people in their group AND they're on a budget. where the heck do i send them??? i was thinking little italy for italian but have no idea about specific restaurants down there. thoughts/suggestions?? as far as asian goes, they could probably do tao, which would probably be cool for the teenagers. but it's not exactly inexpesive. i can't think of anything more reasonable though. for the asian look into East Village options. Cool, hip area with reasonably priced restaurants. As for Italian, so many to choose from but Forlini's on Baxter Street is good and not $$ here is the link to some reviews http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/7113366/ [ Reply | More ]

picollo angolo for italian. asian - one of those noodle places but they are non sushi. tao has a 3 course lunch special for $25.00 I think - it's awesome and tons of food. They need to make a reservation. [ Reply | More ]

Roberto Passon on Ninth Avenue or Etcetera Etcetera on 44th Street. For Asian, dim sum in Chinatown, though I like the more expensive, more "modern" Chinatown Brasserie. Also for Asian, what about Momofuku? [ Reply | More ]

I love Ruby Foos for sushi and non - and its as fun as tao for out of towners. Ditto Sushi Samba. Both can get expensive though. Italian is much easier - Lupa (the younger sister of Babbo) has great food. [ Reply | More ]

They should really go to TAKAHACHI on Ave A(bet 5& 6t St) Great food, very affordable, excellent for all sorts of ny vibe. It's a mix of 15 yr regulars w/almost evrything else. The sushi is always fresh and excellent and the non-sushi offerings extend far beyond tempura; nothing bad on this menu. [ Reply | More ]
